To be honest, SF is not very photogenic when taken from the city central point of view (but then again maybe it's my photography skill). However, it is pretty damn amazing from the top (Twin Peaks) which post will be next on the queue. What surprised me was the fact that it is an eco-friendly city. We had to pay 10 cents for a paper bag or a plastic bag, even in a department store. So if you want to buy a cardigan, it's either you pay 10 cents for the carrier bag or you can chuck it inside yours. I thought it was ridiculous at first. I heard about paying for a plastic bag in supermarkets or eco-friendly independent shops, but a department store? Where luxury is what you pay, a luxurious service should be what you get, and that includes a paper bag. But, when I think about it again it is an effective way for the whole city unitedly do the same 'campaign' to reduce the unnecessary use of paper/plastic bags because $0.10 every time you buy something can pile up to $300 before you know it.
I thought it would be a short post, but turns out I'm in the mood to share my own way of contributing to the world's go-green activity. So I have a container for paper bags and another one for plastic bags at home and I see them getting stuffier and stuffier, and I rarely use them except reusing the plastic bag from the supermarkets for dust bin. But the paper bags just stay there. That's why when I shop, I try to put the new bought stuff into my own bag to reduce the use of the carrier bag, even when the shopkeeper insisted on giving me a bag. Or, if your own handbag is not big enough and you plan on having a shopping spree, you can maximise only one or two plastic bag and not carrying 10 bags which will end up in your rubbish bin anyway (which I don't recommend if they are still reusable). So yeah, let's reduce, reuse, and recycle together!
